Winter Meals
December 29, 2025 - January 2, 2026 | Multiple venues
The Free Winter Meals program provides meals for Abilene families that are part of the free and reduced cost lunch program. AISD takes a break from serving meals over the holidays, so this program steps in to ensure all families have access to food. We need help preparing and serving meals.
Too many families in Abilene face these agonizing decisions about food versus other needs like medicine and rent every day, and with inflation pushing food prices up, the situation is becoming more challenging. One way Highland helps is by preparing healthy lunches during the school break when Abilene Independent School District is not serving meals. Please consider joining the food preparation team for the FREE Winter Meals program by volunteering for a few hours one day during the winter break. This program is sponsored by the Highland Food Pantry and the Abilene Hunger Coalition. We need help preparing approximately 300 ready-to-eat meals. Families with children ages 8 and older are welcome to serve. For more information contact Becky Almanza at 325-673-1234 orĀ becky@highlandchurch.org.
